SOHO

Cafe Select has become a new favorite of mine to entertain a variety of people, both friends and dates. This German-Austrian-Swiss restaurant always has a mellow but spirited vibe. It's a little trendy and a little bohemian at the same time. If you are in the mood for romance during this pre-Valentine's weekend, you may want to opt for sharing the fondue. If you are feeling very passionate, Cafe Select has a nook off to the side....and it's subtly hidden behind a small curtain should you want a some privacy... |

Not many restaurants in NYC can say they've been around for 30+ years, especially in SoHo. The Cupping Room is one of them and it is a fabulous, medium sized restaurant complete with great jazzy tunes on the sound system, a fireplace, brick walls, and local art on display. |

UPPER WEST SIDE

Elizabeth's Neighborhood Table opened a few months ago in November, and what an addition to the Upper West 90's it is! The exterior facade is a show stopper, complete with a wrap around white picket fence. If you and your special someone are contemplating moving to the 'burbs, you might want to play pretend and hit up this spot. If you have to wait, stroll on the porch and take a ride on the swing. |

UPPER EAST SIDE

I suggest this place because it is not your typical brunch spot. King's offers a $18.95 prix fixe (2 courses) and the atmosphere is why you'd go. King's Carriage House is essentially a slim, 3 story, elegant town house, with an upscale, New England feel. It's something different, something unique, and yet something affordable. |

Le Barricou offers 3 atmospheres in 1. Enter through the social, bar filled, front. Dine towards the back, or stay a while and lounge on the couches in the back near the fireplace. |

The name says it all. A tiny recess along 9th Avenue, Nook is a place you have to try at least once. It is quintessentially "cute". Bonus - It's also BYOB |

TRIBECA
135 West Broadway
(212) 374-1135

I discovered Tiny's on a very cold and windy weekend day, and so glad I did. In Tribeca, the land of large loft-like spaces, Tiny's is an adorable little spot complete with a serious fireplace in the back. If a date took me here, I'd be impressed they found such a gem.
Also of note: the restaurant doesn't hold many people on the main level, but they will soon be opening "The Bar Upstairs." I recommend it as a place to go for a large group birthday, baby shower, or similar event. |

Jack the Horse is your quintessential, cozy neighborhood establishment. It's warm and welcoming and you can't beat the grits and mac-n-cheese on a cold winter day. |
