Cafe Ronda (CLOSED)

THE PLACE

Cafe Ronda is a popular Latin Bistro with a vibrant scene and fantastic sidewalk seating -- good for weekend people watching. It is one block away from the 72nd Street transverse at Central Park, so that also means it's a quick walk to Strawberry Fields and Sheep Meadow too.

What to Eat

The Baked Eggs are our top recommendation, and you have seven variations to choose from. We love the Parmesan option. If you are in a more lunchie mood, Cafe Ronda has plenty of Latin-inspired tapas like crispy fried squid and Argentinian empanadas.

What to Drink

The red and white sangria, hands down, is some of the best in the Upper West. The Sparkling Lychee also screams drink me too.

Jacob's Pickles

THE PLACE

Jacob's Pickles has the cozy atmosphere you'd expect at brunch, give or take a few UWS strollers. It's comfortable with brick walls and big wooden tables, making it a fun spot to hang out with a large group of friends in the back, or a small group in the front.

What to Eat

They've got an enormous (almost overwhelming) Southern-style menu with 13 Southern Biscuit Sandwiches, and instead of Chicken & Waffles, they're going Chicken & Pancakes. Of course, don't forget to try the various pickles -- their specialty!

What to Drink

The Jacob's Pickles bloody Marys are quite the talk of the town. They're topped with all kinds of fun garnishes like crispy bacon or hardboiled egg halves, all served in mason jars. However, the coffee is not so stellar, so you can skip it.

JoeDoe

THE PLACE

Joe & Misses Doe (nicknamed JoeDoe) is a small, relaxed restaurant with a big brick wall, a wood floor and wood tables. It's a bit quirky overall, especially with all the knick knacks on the walls. JoeDoe is a place you can go after literally having crawled out of bed, as the focus is on the food, not fashion. It is owned and operated by husband and wife team Joe and Jill Dobias-- the Joe and Misses Doe.

What to Eat

I'm a big fan of the Corned Duck Hash, and Cheddar White Corn Grits. And don't forget to save room for the Banana Bread Sundae for dessert!

What to Drink

For something refreshing to match this weather, try the The Honey Beer, made with Gin, Ale & Salted Honey.

Rye House

THE PLACE

Rye House is a rustic gastropub with dim lighting (and cooling AC) for these hot summer days. We like the unique details of the interior, like the diamond-shaped, hanging light fixtures and marble bar seating. There's also a TV if you HAVE to watch a sports game.

What to Eat

Come to Rye House hungry. The pub-y menu is full of hearty items like Biscuits & Gravy, Corned Beef Hash, and Huevos Benedict-- a spin on the classic eggs benedict with pico de gallo and chipotle hollandaise.

What to Drink

If there's one thing Rye House is known for, it's their selection of artisan whiskies, bourbon, and beer. For a boozy start to the day, try "The Wakeup Call," a mix of jalapeño-infused Evan Williams Bourbon, lemon, honey, cinnamon and mint.

Reservation Policy

Accepts brunch reservations for groups as small as two people.
