Palo Santo

THE PLACE

Palo Santo is not the kind of place a New Yorker discovers right away. This small restaurant is tucked away on a quiet Brooklyn block, almost hidden behind the street's greenery. Much of the space is constructed with reclaimed wood and salvaged materials, and we like the intricate mosaics in the open kitchen. This is where a more seasoned, refined New Yorker would go, after having all those trendy scenes and long brunch lines under his/her belt.

What to Eat

The $19 prix fixe includes two drinks, a coffee or tea, and an entree. The Crack Corn is made with roasted corn, cheese and Sofrito, a mixture of peppers, onions, tomato and other spices. We also recommend the Huevos Banados with poached eggs, chile hollandaise, grilled bread, beans, and avocado. If you get the chance, tell them to bring back the Crack Corn. Yep, that was really the name of it. And it was amazing.

What to Drink

Not only does the $19 prix fixe include two mimosas, sangria or juice, refills of mimosas and sangria are only $1 each. That is not a typo! Just $1.

Cafe Cluny

THE PLACE

Cafe Cluny is classic New York City brunch. It's a must if you are new to town. The medium-sized space is cozy and comfortable, and decked out with fresh flowers and nature-themed decor from plant illustrations to bird figurines. If you're new to New York, you need to be broken in to our culture and this should be one of your first stops. You'll "get" New Yorkers and their brunch after this.

What to Eat

The Breakfast Sandwich and the French Toast are our top picks, the granola is some of the best we've had, and the fingerling potatoes that come with any egg dish are awesome. For dessert, try the Caramelized Banana and Vanilla Bean Pudding. Bonus: we love the chunks of fresh cut chocolate that come with the bill. Double Bonus: you can buy a bag of their specialty granola to bring home.

What to Drink

Cafe Cluny makes an excellent cappuccino, and their Alagash Shandy is quite good too if you want something alcoholic.

Reservation Policy

Reservations are accepted for parties as few as two people. (If you can get one, take it!)
