Louie and Chan
Louie & Chan, named after two 1920's fictional characters-- Louie, a cobbler, and Chan, a circus performer, was created to capture "the true spirit of the Lower East Side around the turn of the century." Today however they will be hosting their Purple Sunday Soak, honoring all things Prince, with DJ's spinning his tunes all day. It is the singer's 56th birthday this weekend after all.
What to Eat
Louie & Chan is an Italian eatery offering a mix of traditional and non-traditional items on the menu. Dive into the pancakes with bananas or blueberries baked inside, or one of the many egg entrees with tomato sauce, pancetta and fresh cheeses. For something you don't see very often, get the Grilled Mixed Vegetable Skillet, with 25 years aged balsamic and sunny side up eggs.
What to Drink
Louie & Chan makes a mean Bloody Mary, with Spicy Pickle Juice and Sichuan Pepper. Kudos to them for knowing what a garnish is supposed to look like. In honor of the occasion, purple Raspberry Beret cocktails will be flowing.
Brunch reservations are accepted for parties as small as two.
