Sons of Essex
Sons of Essex has an old-timey vibe, and is filled with antiques, vintage photos, and leather-bound books. This Lower East Side eatery packs in a hip, hungry brunch crowd, and has become quite trendy. We can imagine Ron Burgundy, Aziz Ansari and the Olsen twins all having been there, but not together.
What to Eat
The brunch menu is massive... in a good way. We usually choose the Loisaida Steak Huevos, a hearty dish with a Latin flare, and topped with pico de gallo and salsa verde. The creatively named "Eggs Benedictowitz" is also solid (and fun to say). It's a twist on the classic eggs benny, with smoked salmon and a potato pancake.
What to Drink
Don't miss the S.O.E. Coffee, a mix of Patron XO Cafe, Absolut Vanilla, milk chilled on the rocks, and a dash of nutmeg. It's creamy and sweet with a liquor-y kick, and perfectly comforting for this cold, welcome-to-fall, NYC weekend.
Reservations are accepted for parties of two or more.
